I have a strange looking outlet in my barn. Instead of the slots for the plugs being oriented toward the ground the are perpendicular to it. So in stead of =• it looks like:

What is it for? 110 or 220? Can I replace the outlet to make it usable for a standard plug?
@Jgoelman,
I searched and found that this is a 220vac outlet. They are made different so that you can't plug a 110 device into it. From what I understand, You can rewire this outlet (and replace the receptacle) to 110 using the existing wires. Only one hot side is used for 110 instead of both for 220. I would still have an electrician do the work. Good luck.
