I've been reading the thread entitled "how to win friends and allies" and it got me to thinking. If politicians told it the way they see it - no spin, no political correctness - would this world be a better or worse place to live in, or would the world, as we know it, no longer exist?
better place, if they spoke like that before the elections, we'd better know who we were voting for. Ya know? But, the world would be a different place, eeyep.
I'd risk the "Eve of Destruction" (along with being subjected to dys' rendition) to give truth a chance.
Doesn't mean you can't be silent, but does mean when you open your mouth, the truth comes out.
Utopia.
At the local level (at least in rural areas) politicians had damned well better tell the truth, because it doesn't take long for his constituents to find out he lied to them. This system actually works well, but tends to collapse when the numbers of people within a given jurisdiction become sufficiently large. Too many cooks make a great broth of rumor and innuendo. But, for those few of us trying to survive in the wild Rockies, it usually turns out just fine. Reality: what a concept!
Interesting comments. Good points about local politicians, CowDoc. I live in a rural area, but there seems to be a "good old boy" network around here. Maybe we should send them to Washington
By the way, I was in Salmon, Idaho once several years ago. That's beautiful country! I hope I can get over that way again sometime.
New, truthful versions of famous political quotes:
"I am not a crook, but I did wiretap the Dems' headquarters in '72. Oops, sorry you caught me."
"Read my lips. No new taxes. But, well, maybe a few. Okay, more than a few."
"I did not have sex with that woman. Well, not in the both of us being completely naked, horizontal on a bed kind of way. Forgive me?"
"We have nothing to fear but fear itself. And the Depression, which is pretty awful. Plus, I have my wealth tied up in real estate."
