I'm seeking help !

Hi, I'm so lucky to find such forum, I've been seeking advice about moving to a new job and leave my present teaching job for quite sometime, I read many self help books to see things the way they are as appose to the childish view of things (a piece of information stated frequently in self help books). I wanted to see if I could possibly change from wanting to work in isulation to working openly as a boss or a manager.
Most people around think that the most important part at choosing a job is a one that has a good opportunity of reaching a managment position (money and power). My view, on the contrary, is not to care about such issues. I've always been wanting to be a low key at work so I won't face big problems, that attitude suits my personality perfectly !
My question is do I have to work more on my self to change my belief about what job should I choose, or should I just accept my personality and choose a job that makes my life easier regardless to position and money (the easier jobs I refered to doesn't necessarily mean fulfilling one)

Thanks for helping me with such a complex problem !!

A.

There are so many qualifiers in the search for meaningful work and a career..
In my case I stopped driving to the top when I realized my body couldn't handle pressure very well. I downsized my expectations and monetary needs to live a simpler less stressful life.

You need not strive for a managerial position in order to be happy or consider yourself a success. Most workers don't become managers - surely you've heard the expression "too many chiefs, not enough Indians". The bottom line is that management isn't suited to everyone, and the opportunities aren't there, anyway, as that tends to be a problem in organizations.

In a teaching role, you can strive for tenure, for better assignments or smaller class size or better benefits or anything else. You need not be working to become a principal.

Well, ok, that's the core of the conversation and why I inatiated it in the first place. Here is the exact situation; I've been adviced and encouraged by the managment of my training center to devolop my skills towards management so they could help me to the top and have me the suppervisor in the same department (suppervising other teachers). All my personal problems started back then since I always keep avoiding management. I sought advice from friends and some of them told me I should change my self as its unusual for someone to reject good opportunity like that and act so foolishly Rolling Eyes Self-help/Psychology books didn't help me much with that, and my attitude in the workplace is still the same - avoiding responsiblity and avoiding talking to managers/important people in the company. Now, can I just accept my self and forget about changing my self or should I keep struggling for change !
