Photo Show for people who live near New York City

Earlier this year I went to a large photo show at Fort Mason in San Francisco. About eighty photography galleries had exhibit space there.
Several people lectured on their photography. I enjoyed both the exhibits and the lectures a lot.

It turns out that there is a similar show with lectures planned for New York City in mid October, this one with about twenty five galleries. It's called The First Annual New York International Photographic Art Exposition, runs from Oct 14-17, at the Metropolitan Pavilion, whatever that is, on 125 W. 18th Street.

Anyway, if anyone likes photography and is interested, the link is
www.photographynewyork.net.

The people who organize it are at the Stephen Cohen Gallery in Los Angeles, a gallery I like. I've never bought a photo there, but have bought several books and enjoyed many exhibits.

Yes, it has, Algis.

This show looks quite a bit sparer than the one in SF, but I enjoyed the one there so much I wish this NY show a good start. In Fort Mason, where the SF show was, there is also Green's restaurant, which is neat, and a wonderful bookstore. I ended up going to the show and hearing lectures for two days - which therefore included two good lunches and some nice used book purchases.

If you're like me, it happened because you pushed the back button after posting. I don't know if that is true for other posters.

I see myself do it, and then go quickly to new posts and delete my double post. Sheesh.

Lot of s/t passing the fan, here.

Here's the show I went to...
http://www.stephencohengallery.com/archives/PhotoSF2004/APhotoSF2004.html

I think I'll keep going to it. I stayed at a hotel (drecko, but in a neat place) not far away, a block from Chestnut Street, which I really like. I listened to Soth and Witkin, and (forget but he/work was interesting) and went on a bit of a tour with Drew Johnson, of the Oakland Museum...

I found it not that expensive for a great bath of photos.

Perhaps some in the business would scoff, but I found it exciting.

It's Photo New York time again. This year I counted 36 names for photo galleries to have exhibits included in the exhibit facility.

It's held Oct 6-9 at the metropolitan pavilion on 125 w. 18th street.

check - if you're interested - [email protected]

It's $15. for a one day pass to the exhibit. The one I went to in SF was well worth that to me.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll look into it this year.
