Two former Vietnam prisoners of war who appear in ads attacking Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry were appointed by the Bush administration to a panel advising the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The former POWs in the ad, Kenneth Cordier and Paul Galanti, serve on the VA's 12-member Former POW Advisory Committee. VA Secretary Anthony Principi appointed Cordier in 2002 and Galanti in 2003.

Cordier said the VA panel has nothing to do with the Bush campaign or the anti-Kerry group. "It's totally apolitical, and we meet twice a year to bring to the secretary's attention problems from around the country in VA hospitals," he said.

Cordier and Galanti appear in an anti-Kerry ad saying their Vietnamese captors used news of anti-war protests, such as ones Kerry organized, to taunt the prisoners. Cordier also was a member of a Bush campaign veterans' committee but quit earlier this month after that role was revealed.

I think that your title is a bit misleading:

The implication of the title of your thread was that the two men received their appointments because of their anti-Kerry stand. They actually were appointed to the commission way before Kerry was even involved in the election.

If you change "get" to "got", I think that would clear up all the (I am sure unintentional) confusion!

Phoenix,

Who do you think appointed VA Secretary Anthony Principi? It appears that it is you who are confused.

Thanks for allowing everyone to see this.

It would be wonderful to see the code enforced here as far as the infantile linguistics are concerned.

I would expect the favors to be in a one to one correspondence with the statements. The way Bush has conducted this whole presidency has been an embarassment to the idea of bipartisanship.

From here out this country will be run by whover can get over the halfway mark and command the majority. We are polarized to a point where whichever side lose - they can count on having to swallow a bitter pill.

I'm hoping the Kerry can win and overcome the stigma that Mr. Bush and his team have tried to put on him and to assure us that he is quite capable.

If the people trust him to take over we will be better for it. All the dirty tricks and smears against him are likely to fail. They will only draw attention to Mr. Bush's own history - documented or otherwise.

Your post is weak with unproven and unfounded drivel. Bush has even stated in interviews that his service wasn't as heroic as Kerry's and that Kerry was brave to serve in Vietnam.

If you can link SV to Bush then you can link all sorts of 527's to Kerry. Moveon.org Texans for truth and many others all in line with the democrats.
