Some years ago DDT was identified as causing harm to the environment. Based on that laws were passed restricting and prohibiting its use.
Now mosquitoes are transmitting Zika infection, resulting in some cases of microcephaly in a baby born to an affected pregnant woman.
Could many of the Zika infections have been prevented by greater use of DDT? Could resumption of DDT use reduce the number of future cases of Zika infection?
