Kerry's been blathering on this week about the 200 billion spent in Iraq....
Quote:Earlier in the day, Senator Kerry told a campaign rally in North Carolina that Iraq is costing the United States not only lives, but money. Money he says that could be used for domestic programs.
"It is almost $ 200 billion now and I say to everybody in North Carolina that is $ 200 billion that we are not investing in health care in America," he said. "That is $ 200 billion we are not investing in schools in America. That is $ 200 billion that we are not investing in prescription drugs for seniors."

What he said one year ago.
Excerpt:
Quote:MR. RUSSERT: Do you believe we should put more American troops in Iraq?
SEN. KERRY: No.
MR. RUSSERT: Do you believe that we should reduce funding that we are now providing for the operation in Iraq?
SEN. KERRY: No. I think we should increase it.
MR. RUSSERT: Increase funding.
SEN. KERRY: Yes.
MR. RUSSERT: By how much?
SEN. KERRY: By whatever number of billions of dollars it takes to win. It is critical that the United States of America be successful in Iraq, Tim.

Instead of iring his campaign staff, maybe he should fire himself.
At some point a candidate must have a consistant message. It seems basic fundemental common sense to stand firm for something.
Give it up Brand X, obviously he has changed his opinion due to careful study of the facts and under advisemenet of top men in the Democratic party.
This is simply not another case of flip flopping and no matter how you try to spin it, Kerry is doing what's best for America and it's servicemen!

So true, the one moron they can't fire is the one that's dragging the whole campaign down, Kerry.

And what's wrong with that?
A year ago, everyone believed the pres when he said we would find WMD. Turns out, we didn't. Turns out, there's a lot of doubt that they were ever there. Turns out, very little of this doubt was communicated to the Senators or the American people.
So, what's wrong with coming to a new conclusion based upon new evidence? That's called being rational.
Cycloptichorn
McG - LOL...What his comment suggests is that we should not spend ANYTHING associated with the war.
What that suggests is that we should not be there.
Yet the day before he praises the fallen soldiers and their efforts in the overall war on terror.
Yet the day before he said it was the wrong war at the wrong time.
You have to admit, it is difficult to follow where he stands.
No, it isn't, woiyo.
Believe it or not, you can think that we shouldn't be at war, yet praise the efforts of those who are actually fighting, at exactly the same time.
So, just to be clear, Kerry can say we shouldn't be at war in Iraq, and praise the soldiers who were forced to go and die there, without any contradiction whatsoever. The two concepts are completely removed from one another - one is policy, the other is the bravery of soldiers.
Nice try though.
One thing we know....Bush and company will not change their minds...even when the evidence is overwhelming that they are wrong.
But of course, for people like Bush, Cheney, and that ilk...
...sending others to die apparently is of very little consequence.
I doubt many of their relatives and friends will be in harm's way...just as they were able to stay out of harm's way when they could have shown that macho horsemanure if it was real.
But all that patriotism...love of country....and respect for the fighting men and women is just so much bullshyt that is said because the electorate buys into it so easily.
What a laugh this campaign is.
I'm sorry they don't have a :tongue-in-cheeck: smiley...
Studies show that containment of Saddam cost 19 billion a year so there was already a twelve year expendature of that much.
Kerry portrays it as if we were'nt spending anything in Iraq before.
Cyclo - You are using "kerry-isms".
Let's remember, this is the same guy who fought in a war, then decidedit was a bad war, then SLAMMED EVERY SOLDIER who fought in that war.
Let's try it this way.
Detail EXACTLY John Kerry's position on the war in Iraq which has been consistant throughout the campaign.
We'll just have to Google Kerry's name tomorrow and see where he stands.

That is absolutely true! However, Kerry's quote with Russert is quite clear, and he needs to clarify his change of mind. Otherwise it is as much his $200 million as Bush's. Sometimes I wonder if John Kerry gives us credit for rationality.
