So here's the deal. I am not a Democrat but I have counted myself as one for the last year or so because their stance on the issues appears to line up with mine at this particular moment in my life. So I've been thinking, what exactly is it about GWB that I find so unacceptable as a president?

The economy? Not really. Though I am concerned about the lack of fiscal responsibility and the shrinking middle class, that's not really it.

Bush's personality? No, not that either. Though I don't like his macho swagger it's nothing I couldn't get past.

So what then? And so it comes down to these.

Iraq. It was bait and switch. The idealogues that were given power in this administration were determined to do this from day one and they used the excuse of 911 to accomplish it. Which leads to the next one...

The placing of extreme idealogues in positions of power.

The war on 'terror'. Leaving aside the utter absurdity of its title, it appears to be an open ended assault on something whose definition is constantly morphing. And thus a never ending battle.

The rejection of multilateralism.

The disdain for separation of powers and congressional oversight. The return to Nixonian secrecy. The sheer creepiness of Dick Cheney. The feeling that, deep down inside, these people don't believe in the democracy. The idea that a military dictatorship would be okay if only General Bush were the leader. Ok, that might be over the top, but watching the convention I couldn't help but feel that. The willingness to divide the nation along whatever lines necessary in order to obtain and retain power.

There's no question that Bush is an effective leader. But my deepest fear is that he'll lead us off a cliff. And so it wouldn't matter to me if Kerry were snorting coke as we speak, I'll still vote for him as the only viable alternative to what I see as a dark time to come for our country. And God help him if he actually wins, because it could take many presidencies to undo this one.

No thanks (for me)
Preferably I would rather there be a third party more moderate than the far left or far right but that doesn't seem to be an option.

As a Vietnam Vet... I am very disappointed in what I see in Kerry as he portrays himself and the way he trys badgering his way into the political arena and (though I don't have a great love for the Bush campaign) I do sympathize with the turmoil he's had to endure in his term.

Being the choice will fall between them two... I believe I have to vote Bush but there is one individual I wish was running that I would vote for in a heartbeat. The Mayor of Saint Paul, MN (Kelly).

The reason I would vote for this man... is that (even though he is a Democrat) he is going against the grain (so to speak) and Voting for Bush because of much the same reason as I mentioned about the Kerry campagne. He still wishes to be democrat but for once there is a man who votes his mind rather than being worried about what anyone says.

The last straw for him... was a bumper sticker with the statement "I hate Bush!" Hate is not what this country or any other country needs to regain its composure.

Bush has no concept of Democracy. His actions are hurtful to the average American. He is a loose cannon in foreign affairs. The sooner he retires the better off the world will be.

Kerry and the Democrats support killing children
Democrats kill by abortions, Democrats want a sociolist society. Democrats like Kerry FLIP FLOP with the polls. Kerry is for the war , against the war, for the war , against the war. He has no spine.

I contest that:

Abortions are NOT murder
Socialism is a Good Thing

However, I have no idea about the war.

I dunno. Everybody talks about his swagger. I perceive him as a closet wimp, who has to overcompensate. Laughing

I heard some of his speech at the convention, and he came out with something along the lines of "People say I walk with a swagger. In Texas, we call it walking" to much applause.

Any Texans care to comment?

Yet oddly enough it is A-okay for Republicans to kill the Superfund Trust in '95. Now Ms. Christine Whitman has ended unannounced inspections of polluters and suppressed state-agency reports that warn of high pollution levels. Houston, Texas had a time trying to get a toxic sludge site near a neighborhood, school and hospital cleaned up. The EPA, under Ms. Whitman's control wanted to come in and burn off all of the sludge, not knowing what chemicals were in the sludge. It took a local reporter to find that the sludge contained mercury. You can't burn mercury. You can only convert it to gas form. IF the EPA had burned the sludge like they were wanting to do, it would have released toxic, harmful chemicals into the atmosphere. Meanwhile, the local reporter also discovered that in the near by neighborhoods there were high numbers of birth defects, miscarriages, and spontaneous abortions. That is not to mention the number of cases of various types of cancers that the neighborhoods were plagued with.

Now, is it ok for Democrats to support a woman's right to choose when the Republicans allow the fund for toxic clean-up to be killed and the chemicals that are seeping into the soils and streams around these Superfund sites are causing DEADLY cancers, birth defects, miscarriages and spontaneous abortions?
