I purchased a spa 2 years ago and had the disconnect setup by an electrician. I have not had one issue in the past 2 years. A few days ago, I came home and found that the GFCI was tripped. I reset it and still wasn't able to get any power. I tested incoming black to black and got 240 and black to white and got 120 as expected. On the GFCI output side, I got nothing. Also, the "Test" button did not work, and the breaker had a funny feel to it. Like when I would switch to "On", I could easily "wiggle" it into the "half-tripped" position. I assumed there was an issue with the GFCI, so I just replaced it a few minutes ago. So when I took the GFCI off, it no longer had that funny feeling of play between "On" and "half-tripped". it was just going on to off no problem. When I tested the new one, same thing...Felt funny like the other one did, Test button did not work, and no voltage. Any idea what would cause this???? I want to blame the hot tub, but if I am jumping black to black behind the GFCI, shouldnt that completely eliminate the hot tub from the equation? I am new to doing any electrical stuff, but I am totally stumped. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Nick
I would contact an electrician, because AC power plus water plus a leakage problem minus electrical knowledge could mean a funeral or hospital visit in your near future.
