@BroRando,
can't see the forest for the trees

To be so concerned with specifics or details that the larger problem, situation or point is missed. Alternate: can't see the woods for the trees. Often said incorrectly as "can't see the forest THROUGH the trees." (English, circa 1500's)

@Jay2know,
Quote:
God must have a name, everything else does.
Our need for names is just the need for identity. The necessity for a vocalized sound representing that identity is just because of our crude method of communication and its subsequent language.

There are at least two reasons why God has no need for a name as we understand the term.

1. He no doubt has a vastly superior way of communicating with no need for vocal cords or air being forced through them to make sound.

2. Since his identity is unique, he has no need for a name to differentiate himself from others. He is God, our Father.

Just as your earthly father is unique to you. Most people address him as 'dad', not 'John Smith'.

@cicerone imposter,
Your link would be more accurately called 900 terms for God, not many of those were names as we refer to them.
I've been called lots of things too but they weren't my name.

But #1 on the list is the only one you need.

@TomTomBinks,
I did too, when I was at school. I read lots of other stuff, most of which I can't remember, but this is the sort of thing that sticks in your head.

@Leadfoot,
Not a huge fan of Asimov. If you like theological sci fi you should give Philip K Dick a go.

@Charlie4U,
Hi Charlie,

I think God's name separates him from everything else. People name their pets don't they? Yet they claim God has no name? It does make perfect sense that he would have a wonderful name. JEHOVAH the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus even prayed this his NAME be hallowed and sanctified. Do your parents have a name?

@Freddie2,
Thanks. I was looking through this thread and noticed atheists here? As the saying goes, there are no atheists in fox holes.
