Ever hear that statement? As.one who has experienced it and still experiences it, I can tell you it has evolved but will never go away.
Today blatant acts of racism are not tolerated by the general population so instead of whipping out a racial slur you just throw out a comment about how stupid they look or something like that. Instead of openly refusing service you give them really poor service. Or if you're one of those kind, liberal people who won't believe you are racist because you aren't mean, then it's just business as usual. Keep treating those who don't look like you as an inferior human then wonder why accusations of racial insensitivity keep coming your way. Most will take your side anyway, assuming the color of your jersey is correct. Just plead ignorance while blaming the alleged victim for being too sensitive. After all, it's not like you called them cruel names and threw rocks while you were treating them as an inferior human.
I'm glad our society has evolved in a mostly good direction. But until we stop believing and treating others like they are inferior just because they are different, racism will always have a noticeable presence everywhere. It is human to feel resentment and aggression toward those who look different from us. Humans come out of the womb with many genetic faults. The only reason we sway one way or another is when the majority of society says, "Enough! A civilized society does not think or act this way!" But these days, the majority seem to think other ethnic groups should be satisfied with the current treatment. You know, like telling a victim of crime, "You should be happy it wasn't worse!"
What do you think? Should I be able to insult and offend your race by treating you as an inferior being, so long as I remind you "it could have been worse"?
