I thought I would toss this out, I realize the game threads bore some folks, but some of the games are so delightfully silly they become a great deal of fun. Well, they make me laugh. People loosen up on the humor threads and some of the members are very clever. Maybe folks should venture in and see if it's a good fit. If it just bores you, you haven't lost anything and who knows, you might have some fun.

Anyhow, it's a thought. I've met many folks there that I enjoy and about everyone gets along.

While I don't get angry, I do get even; something for everyone to think about. There's more than one way to use a dash, roger. Take a good look at one; they slip in anywhere . . . A-N-Y-W-H-E-R-E! You think about that. That goes for you too Osso and edgar! But not you Glitterbag, thanks to our secret alliance.

@ossobuco,
Two hyphens make one dash. If you use only one hyphen to make a dash, that means that you must be running short of hyphens. Lucky for you I know "a guy" who has hyphens. But he wants three commas for each hyphen; it's not fair, but then what is? So if you have extra commas, I can get you some hyphens. And of course, I expect a comma for making this transaction possible.

And I don't mind being called a poopity-head. And I'm sure you won't mind being called vomity-head.

@CalamityJane,
I'm in the same place as C_Jane. I still post occasionally on topics that interest me, but they are soon overrun by last-worders who can't stop beating the same dead horses over and over again.

Ten years ago I was raising teenagers and actively involved in parenting threads. I think a number of us had kids that were slightly younger than mine and we had lots of ideas to share. We also had a core group who participated in relationships threads. I don't read those any more. It seems that whenever I look in on one it's full of snarky responses - or it seemed that way before I stopped looking at them.

My reasons for being online are social. I work at home with limited social contacts. When A2K became less social and welcoming it became less of a draw for me. I'm not much interested in debates, and I'm definitely not interested in watching last-worders insist on getting the last word.

@Glennn,
The word poopity-head has a positive connotation in a2k history. A quite loved and now departed a2k fellow, Dyslexia, used to call his favorite people that, sort of special honor.

I think I remember that back in the seventies sometimes "shithead" was used between arguing friends, not meant especially badly.

@ossobuco,
I use "wiseass" as a term of respect for either wit or intelligence.

@farmerman,
Same idea, though "shithead" could also be meant somewhat meanly.

@ossobuco,
Dyslexia is gone? That's a pity. Good memories of the few posts we exchanged..

Dys was an original, no doubt about that. RIP, Dyslexia.

"Shithead" is a term I affectionately call either of my two cats.

Looking back on some of my posts, I was pretty witty and clever but I had a host of a2k buddies that brought out the best in me.
A lot of them are gone.
Such is life.

I spent a lot of time arguing my view on political threads.
Now I could care less if someone agrees with me.

The growth of Facebook and other social media has bombarded me with unwanted news and memes and it's affected my time here.
I'm down to four or five threads I really enjoy.

Such is change

I'm increasingly impatient with the lack of respect for other posters and therefore less likely to engage here. Recently found a place (thanks to an inadvertent lead from saab) where respect is highly valued. It seemed bland initially, but I'm appreciating the calm and there are good discussions.

@Robert Gentel,
Based on the few posts from 10 years ago which I read, I'm not sure much has changed with me. But to put this in perspective it should be noted that I was on A2K for at least 3 years before that, and Abuzz before that and Internet News Groups before that, so I was already quite jaded and more than a little experienced by 10 years ago.

If I had to pick something I would say that I'm probably less likely to entertain discussions centered around "old arguments", and a lot of stuff is old to me now.

I used to feel that way too. I thought I was almost alone in my fair and objective approach to dealing with others.

The thing that changed and made me appreciate others 'around' me, even when they were being obnoxious, was the realization that EVERYONE, including me, comes off as an asshole at times. When you really accept that, it makes even heated debate possible without losing respect for others..

I joined one forum a few months ago. A couple of posters appeared to reach out at first. But, when I posted about (non political or religious) subjects of interest to me, members **** all over the thread. Only my friends are allowed to **** all over my threads, which is why I am still here. Smile
