To McGentrix

There are imigration laws in place and specific requirements necessary in order to allow for immigration, without HIV being one of them.

In speaking with my friends, we all agree that if the American government was to screen all American residents for HIV and ban those found to be HIV+ from leaving the country for any reason............there would be a public outcry and said ban would never be imposed!

You are trying to interrupt on the Constitutional freedoms of American citizens. You are not an American citizen and there for hove no right to enter the US. US citizens have the right to travel to and from the US at will with no restrictions, US citizens don't. It is a privilege to enter and people with diseases don't receive that privilege.

Sorry you can't respect the sovereignty these matters, it explains the difference between those that are US citizens and those that aren't. Political correctness doesn't enter into the equation when it comes to protecting our citizens.

Funny, but the US government doesn't discriminate against people coming over the border from Mexico who carry a wide variety of illnesses, including cholera, measles, and typhoid.

Most of the people from Mexico come over illegally so there is no way to test for what type of sickness they might have. I'm sure that if we were able to test every illegal that came over there would be less immigration from Mexico.

You are wrong there. You never now what is going to happen, as long as someone has any type of spreadable disease there is always a risk of spreading the disease. The only way not to spread it, is to cure it and no one has done that yet. This is why we conservatives say liberals are dangerous to the country, you don't care who comes into our country or what they have.

Maybe you should lie about your sero-status?

You are advocating breaking the law. Shame on you.

Heck, Bush has been lying about everything for 57 years and no one seems the least bit concerned

You are being misleading and diverting.

A great number of individuals, groups and organizations IN the United States do not agree with you and they are working towards stopping this ban. They also have the support of Senator Jesse Helms, original initiator of the ban; among many others in the American government.

Equally, the United Nations, individuals, groups and organizations around the world do not agree with this ban and work is being done to have it lifted!

I completely misunderstood the original title of this thread. I thought it meant: The US discriminates against HIV and people. I'll leave you now, to your discussion.

I hope it doesn't happen. If this were to happen, it would lead to the US no longer being a sovereign nation. We have to right to say who enters and who doesn't.

I don't care who is trying to get it lifted. As I have stated I don't care who in the world tries to do this, we will fight back. Of course it will be lead by the liberals (who don't want the US to be a sovereign nation) and socialists. Get cured you can come in, plain as that. I can't wait till the day comes when we pull out of the UN and throw their socialist asses out of the US.

United States Discriminates Against HIV+ People
With regards to my post, I received the following comments.

"The U.S. ban, which prohibits anyone with HIV from entering the U.S. without a special waiver, violates the fundamental right to be free from discrimination, the right to life and personal security and the right to freedom of movement. These are rights recognized by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and are implicitly or explicitly noted in almost every human rights treaty. The HIV immigration ban unfairly sets people with HIV apart from those with other diseases and disabilities, despite the fact that HIV is not transmitted casually. It plays into hostility and hatred toward persons with HIV.

In addition, the United Nations Guidelines on HIV/AIDS and Human Rights have clearly cited exclusion based on HIV status as infringing on basic human
rights:

"There is no public health rationale for restricting liberty of movement or choice of residence on the grounds of HIV status. According to the current international health regulations, the only disease which requires a certificate for international travel is yellow fever. Therefore, any restrictions on those rights based on suspected or real HIV-status alone, including HIV screening of international travelers, are discriminatory and cannot be justified by public health concerns." (HIV/AIDS and Human Rights, International Guidelines, 01-06-1998, p. 46, note 105. See also UNAIDS/IOM Statement on HIV/AIDS-Related Travel Restrictions 1-16-04. Both documents can be found at unaids.org)
