That was before the new prescription drug benefit.

The service I get from Medicare could not be better. It is just as good or better than that which I get from my supplemental insurance and a hell of a lot more inexpensive. I have never been denied coverage by Medicare.
As to the people that will lose their jobs. That is for India to worry about since that is where all their jobs are or will be going as things stand now.
As for increasing costs to taxpayers, does that really make a difference in my life if my costs of medical care go down at roughly the rate my taxes go up? It balances out the same in the end.
As for the efficiency, We have an opportunity to design a new system for handling it. Health care is an important and sensitive problem, right? There is no reason we should be held back by the models and paradigms of current government agencies when designing the health agency.
As for the jobs in the health insurance industry, we will need a lot of people to help get the new agency off the ground, especially at first, so there is good room for people to move over to a similar position.

That abortion made it worse since it was a gift to the Pharmaceutical and Insurance industry and a tough pill to swallow by the elderly. People will learn in 2006 how their government has again sold them down the river.
