Ever since Mo moved in I'm always on the lookout for free or cheap stuff to do in our city. We've been to Tulip Festivals and Garlic Festivals and Rose Festival and Fire Department Pancake Breakfasts - all kinds of crazy things.
But yesterday was the best day of all - Big Truck Day!
It seems Big Truck Day got started when an intern at the Parks Department came up with the idea. What they do is bring out one of each of the big city trucks and a few big private trucks, park them all in this huge lot and let the kids lose. The kids get to crawl around inside and honk the horns and turn on the sirens and lights.
They even handed out earplugs!
It was very cool. Every city should have Big Truck Day.
Does your city have some nutty "Days"? What kind of free or cheap things have you found to do with your family?
Big Truck Day sounds blissful for small boys and people who love them.
Do you have any major construction going on in the area? Roads, buildings, sewers? Earth moving equipment is fascinating for an ambitious man child.
P.S. You can also visit the local fire house--more bliss.
Big Truck Day was heaven sent!
Within spitting distance of my studio there is some major construction going on. I can always convince him to go to work with me for the simple promise of watching the big tractors.
We have visited the fire station and (wonder of all wonders) the city dump.
Before the weather turns too rainy we're heading to the coast for the steam train ride, too. It's not exactly free, not really all that cheap even but he loves haging out at the very still steam train at the forest center so I think this will be amazing.

.
I love watching big tractors!
Mind if I tag along?
Mind if I run a criminal background check?
Just kidding!
Sure you can come along.
I'm not so sure you are kidding, boomerang.
I think you suspect me of being some kind of criminal.
I have been hurt before, and hurt deeply, but this time the pain is so intense I feel I may never recover.
So are you going to sue me now or what?
I've got a 10 year old Subaru and a sick dog.
Take your pick.
