As a supporter of the research who does appreciate the positions of its opponents -- and who actually knows a little bit of the science of it -- I'm dismayed at the way it's being used as an issue and at the way it was presented at the convention. Reagan's speech, whether he knew it or not, was scientifically bad. But it's politics, pure and simple, and it flies both ways. I don't look to politicians to help me with my "moral compass."
