As she was eating / As she ate, Dorris noticed that Jayson was missing.

Which is the correct choice? Thanks.

@tanguatlay,
Both are OK, the second way is a bit more formal.

Usually, Doris only has one r.

In the USA, 496 boy babies were named Dorris between 1897 and 1939, and 6409 girl babies between 1896 and 1948. (The latter year in each case is the year in which the name finally dropped out of the top 1000 most popular names, and was not included in name statistics)

Dorris Henderson (1933–2005) was an American-born, United Kingdom-based folk music singer and autoharp player; Dorris Bowdon (1914–2005) was a Hollywood movie actress; Dorris Vooijs is a Dutch artist born in 1968.

@Tes yeux noirs,
Who mentioned the USA?

I was answering as an Englishman, where Doris is Doris. Usually.

You get blokes who don't know if they are Boris or Doris.
