Retirement savings

I'm already retired, but while working, I've often wondered how much would be needed to be saved to continue in the lifestyle to which we have become accustomed.
Here's a link with some suggestions that seems reasonable, but what have you personally done to save for retirement?
What percent of social security do you apply against savings?
Also, if you're already retired, did your savings plan work out? If not, do you know why?
