Hello. This is a very beautiful painting. It looks like it may have been done by a professional painter. The pictures were taken outside. The colors are much more vibrant in the sunlight than they are in my house. I removed it from the frame and there is no signature that I can see. I found this painting at a local thrift store. I think it is painted on a masonite board. It measures 16X20 inches. The frame had a name of the framer based in Minneapolis and a date of 1960 with another name above the date that i cant make out. I was thinking that this might be a attempt to replicate another famous painting but I cant seem to find anything the matches up. Any help would be much appreciated. The album link to the painting is below. Thank You
I like it. I couldn't read the pencil note on the tag. It looks thirties/forties to me. Nice frame, Gotta be worth $400/$600.
The signature may be under the flange of the frame and/or on the back of the canvas under the brown paper dust cover. Do it carefully and replace the old paper with new. Its possibly illustration original art.
Thank you. The painting is on the board. There is no backing. That ruff material is the back of the "masonite" . I'll have to look again at the inside of the frame but I didn't see anything the first time around. On another forum someone thought it might be a an illustration for publication as well.
Its a nice piece, I'd hang it. If there's a good signature it becomes worth $1,500 - $2,500, if you can find the cover or story it illustrates, maybe up to $4,000.
