I don't know how many of you guys listen to the Eels and I know that the whole Cheney saying the f word thing is old. I still thought this was interesting as I did not know that the Bush admin had went after free speech and the Eels like this.
Quote:BUSH ADMINISTRATION: PROFANITY IS FOR US, NOT FOR EELS:
U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney took a shot at Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy, telling him to "Go f* yourself" during a heated exchange on the Senate floor Tuesday. This is particularly interesting to the EELS because their CD "Daisies of the Galaxy" was used by Bush & Cheney as an example of the music
industry releasing CDs with "indecent language" during their 2000 campaign for The White House, going so far as posting "offensive" EELS lyrics on George W. Bush's official website and making public statements about the EELS.
After his outburst Tuesday, Cheney noted that he felt better having said it. When asked about the incident, EELS spokesman E said "See? It DOES feel good," then added, "f* him."
The far-reaching effects of this ridiculous hypocrisy can even be felt on the Interscope Records-hosted EELS message board, where the word "f*" can no longer be used. At least you can still say it on the Senate floor. Rock hard, and scary times, indeed.
Me I think should so be able to say what you like unless you are directly threatening someone("I am going to kill you") or endangering the public("crying fire in a crowded movie house").
