Your home is on fire. All living beings (human and animal) are safely outside. You have time to grab one thing to save from the flames. What will it be?
Stack of CD books. I don't really have objects of sentimental value.
My Bolex H16mm reflex movie camera:it´s the only thing at home that I could sell for any decent cash.
My passport & green-card.
As a matter of fact, in anticipation of that very thing, I have a case packed and in the closet by the door. You will think me soo organized, but that is not usually the case. I have a friend that this exact scenario happened to and she lost everything and I heard how frustrating and difficult it was to get her life in order again.
Anyway, my bag contains:
My passport, greencard
Spare credit cards that I keep for emergencies
Coded floppy disk with a list of my credit cards and contact numbers for the banks to have them replace those cards I might lose
List of the utility companies and other interested parties who may need to know I have moved address so that my bills/utilities are cancelled or get paid
Address book (for phone numbers of friends who I might be able to crash with).
I also have, hanging over a rail right by the door, sweatpants/sweater/socks/sneakers, in case I am awakened at night and need to dash out of the apartment. I refuse to be caught in nothing but my knickers, while a local TV station airs my wretched ass to all of New England!
I've been in several fires, growing up as a kid. Pack a bag, with the essentials and be sure you take your car keys with you.
Heeven:
What happens to you, if there's a fire and you are not home. Your little case will be burned.
The 100+-year-old heirloom clock I inherited.
Having had the whole house burn down directly across the street was a scary thing. Not being directly affected you still feel violated.
All they got out with was the kids and pjs.
New Haven, you crack me up, I actually laughed out loud when I read your post. Yep, my little case will indeed burn up, but guess what? I also have a copy of the disk (with all my dark secrets) saved somewhere else. The other stuff - well if it burns, it burns. I'll bitch and moan about it but sure, what can ya do?
dyselxia, for sure, my ass!
My guitar. I'll play a song while I watch it all burn!
My guitar was my dad's when he was young. It's probably about 75 years old and it has a beautiful sound. I'd really hate to lose that guitar.
Peace and Love, glad you didn't say fiddle!
ditto dyslexia and Bill W
My handbag!!!! (I think you guys call it a "purse"?)
Just one thing, sheesh so much junk so little time.
oops JD, you just burned!
If it's junk, why bother?
