What communities would you start?

Are all or most of the old threads to vanish? Many of us might want to save what we can, if that is the case,

@edgarblythe,
No, a2k will be right where it is with the existing threads. Some of the groups in a2k will become their own communities but threads will still be in their respective groups etc.

@Lordyaswas,
The free communities wouldn't allow for that content but if anyone wants to use their own domain they can host it on the platform that way.

survival.madlabs.com to discuss the coming apocalypse and how to survive it. Whether it's zombies, weather, mega-volcano, earthquake, ice age...

How to make a get -home bag, a bug-out bag, a survive at home kit and such things. How to can, grow, etc. You know, crazy things for us crazies.

@ossobuco,
On travel, a matter I've long considered a luxury, people become expatriates for different reason, including suddenly becoming a refugee. How to tackle that? There could be a community about adjusting to a whole new life. This sounds fuzzy since it is fuzzy in my mind, but so many people over our lifetimes have been wrenched away from where they lived. Or the opposite, moved far on purpose.

I suppose that is academically called sociology.. which would fit in with (I think it was an idea by ehBeth) a grouping with such academic titles.

@McGentrix,
Not that you are reminding me or anything but I also think there should be a conservatives.madlabs.com and progressives.madlabs.com (and/or liberals or whatever) communities in addition to the general political communities.

Sports, mostly to handle our games like NFL Pick-em and to talk about the
Yahoo Fantasy Leagues many of us play in.

@George,
Yes! And because the sports threads here don't tend to thrive (I think the original forum culture made for an anti-sports leaning). I want an nba or basketball community if the general sports community ever gets big enough to split up.

..wondering about sticky connections - travel readers would likely be interested in travel books. I once wanted to open a travel store and had sent suggestions to Borders - one guy replied with interest and then probably he was fired. If I remember, I proposed they put travel/exploration diaries, and other stuff about destinations, in airport stores.

But this kind of thing would show up in a lot of communities, the variations of people's interests. What then? links?

@Robert Gentel,
The first one would be RELIGION which would be concerned with Judaism, Islam and Christianity.

The second one would be: Health, Medical Issues, Medications, Insurance questions. The subjects are centered on main stream medical care and will reflect opinions only.

The third one[/b : This seems to be growing popularity on A2K and concerns issues such as dating, love, romance, dating, gay life, transgender life, and I suppose the format could follow the "Love" columns commonly found in our daily US papers. The title could be Romance Lost and Found(!)

The[b] fourth one
: This section would be called "Etiquette" or "Polite Society"

@Miller,
I like those ideas. They have the benefit of not being too tightly focused.

So it will be a2kmore?

We've had several long runing (10+years) threads about
Cooking
Music
Reading
Videos etc.
Politics - divided maybe into regions/countries/continents
Humor
Parenthood
Pets
Gardening
Careers
ESL
Games
Relationship & SEX (I miss those porn questions)
Unpublished (poems, short stories etc.)

I also used to love these amateur rap lyrics. People came to the old a2k just to get their rap lyrics in...I forgot the guys name now, but he was excellent. He and his cronies branched out into other threads too after a while..

@CalamityJane,
Good list! ESL is definitely one where both its community and A2K would benefit from there being a dedicated place for, even though it was one of the original topics that motivated me to start A2K, it was originally going to be FluencyNow.com (no longer a site I own).

@Robert Gentel,
Science seems like a good basic topic. Of course, there would be a lot of sub-topics below it: Biology, Cosmology, Geology, etc.

I'd like to start one about nothing.....

Maybe Australia...where you have to spell properly.

Not sure if I'd actually start a community, but if I did the topics would probably related to East Asian news, language and culture topics, and maybe ESL/EFL. Astrophotography also comes to mind, but I don't think there are enough people here interested in that.
