Dash Cam

I got a cheap one from China. It has cameras facing both fore and aft. It's been working fine for a few years now. If you want the brand name, I'll check for you.

Yeah, it has a memory card you can take out and plug into a card reader.

One other thing. Can one be made to run if the car is not running?

Yeah, just turn the key a notch forward so the accessory power comes on, or run a 12V supply directly to the battery.

Cigarette lighter is always on. You do remember what that is?

Yeah, that's what it plugs into, but in my car the power to the lighter cuts out when the ignition switch is off.

They do a good job of explaining how to avoid fakes (don't assume it's real just because it is sold on Amazon).

And they point out some good models that are worthwhile (so long as you don't end up with a fake).

I picked the one they recommend for hardcore geeks as opposed to the one they recommend for people who need something user friendly, and I'm happy with what I got.

It looks like they are going to update their recommendations soon.
