WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of ``Bushisms'' on Thursday, declaring that his administration will ``never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people.''

Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.

``Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we,'' Bush said. ``They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.''

No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.

The president was working his way toward a larger point. ``We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country. We must always be forward-thinking,'' he said.

In context there is nothing wrong with that statement, we do have to think like the terrorists at times.

I understand what he was trying to say with that statement, but context doesn't help the actual statement one bit.

Quote:
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush's misstatement ``just shows even the most straightforward and plain-spoken people misspeak.''

It was plain speaking, all right! :-D

There is a certain ironic honesty therein, however, given the effect the administration's tax cut and the tax and spend Republicans in Congress have had on the middle and working class.

Karzak -- English 101.

Quote:
``Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we,'' Bush said.

This means: Our enemies are innovative and resourceful. We are innovative and resourceful.

Quote:
``They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.''

This means: Our enemies never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people. We never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people.

Do you see how that last sentence may not have been his intended meaning?

ROTFLMAO, you can spell english 101, but your comprehendsion falls short.

"``We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country."

Now, how do you think you figure out how to stop a terrorist? One way is to think like them, right?

You get it yet or do you need some more explaination?

Karzak, again, as I said way up there, I get what he was TRYING to say. But according to the rules of English, what he attempted to say is not what he actually said. He tried to say something that was fine -- I get the concept of "we have to stay one step ahead of the terrorists, think the way they think, etc." -- and he failed.

I won't vote for him or not on the basis of a silly flub. But it was a silly flub.

LOL, wrong, what he attempted to say is what he actually said.

The statement makes perfect sense, in order to protect the uUS from those that want to destroy we have to think like they do. Why do you such a problem understand it?

I can't believe he's actually trying to argue that the rules of the English language are, well, not the rules of the English language.

But lesson learned. Shall cease and desist.

If it wasn't on Leno, The Daily Show and Letterman last night, it will be on today. The fact that anyone would argue that the sentence makes any sense is another example that there is proof some children have been left behind.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I offer that last sentence as "Exhibit A" in the case of Karzak v. Unintentional Irony.

Ladies and gentleman:

Please don't interfere with Kadzook's relishing this one moment when George W. Bush spoke the truth.

Let's just stand back and watch him wallow in it.
