Thanks for posting that link spiker. I bookmarked it for future reference. Smile

I also will be proud to call Kerry my president. Hey, there is never going to be a perfect candidate with whom I agree with 100%. Bush is an incompetent and dangerous president. Kerry can't be anything other than an improvement.

I agreed with the majority of his votes with the exception of:

The vote against the military pay raise...
Voted NO on cap foreign aid at only $12.7 billion...
Voted Against Spending Reductions that would reduce the national budget by $94 billion...
Voted Against Bipartisan Plan To Balance Budget in seven years. ..
Voted NO on eliminating the 'marriage penalty'...

There was an article a while back about how increasing Gas Tax by 6 cents per gallon back when he wanted to do it could've had huge (postive) effects -- especially, that was just before SUV's were on the rise, and higher gas prices likely would've impacted that rise. As a result of SUVs and other gas guzzlers, we're even more dependent on foreign oil.

I'll see if I can find it...

Hmm, doesn't seem to be free anywhere in it's totality, but this quotes from it liberally:

http://www.gristmagazine.com/muck/muck052704.asp

Quote:
Had federal gas taxes gone up 50 cents a gallon 10 years ago ... [t]he S.U.V. and pickup-truck crazes would not have occurred," wrote Easterbrook. "[G]reenhouse-gas emissions in this country would be lower; [and] Persian Gulf oil states would have less influence on the global economy and less significance to American foreign policy.

Your explaination of why increasing the Gas Tax by 6 cents would have had a positive effect has made it's way into my very open mind and now I better understand why Kerry voted FOR it. Cool

I'm off to edit my previous post now.

This seems like a pretty good voting record for Kerry to me as well. This page argues that Kerry would make a good president after all.

I'm not sure if that was your intention spiker, but after reading that page, I am more certain than ever that Kerry and I share similar views on many issues.

I'm also almost certain that the site (being biased) interpreted his votes very liberally.

I'm certain that some of the things he opposed (like the budget reduction amendments) were things that he initially supported (McCain and him worked together on balancing the budget after all) but became opposed to once republicans shifted the budget cuts so that they cut deeply into things like welfare, education and social security as well.

Quote:
Early in 1991 the secretary unveiled a plan to reduce military strength by the mid-1990s to 1.6 million, compared to 2.2 million when he entered office. In his budget proposal for FY 1993, his last one, Cheney asked for termination of the B-2 program at 20 aircraft, cancellation of the Midgetman, and limitations on advanced cruise missile purchases to those already authorized. When introducing this budget, Cheney complained that Congress had directed Defense to buy weapons it did not want, including the V-22, M-1 tanks, and F-14 and F-16 aircraft, and required it to maintain some unneeded reserve forces. His plan outlined about $50 billion less in budget authority over the next 5 years than the Bush administration had proposed in 1991. Sen. Sam Nunn of the Senate Armed Services Committee said that the 5-year cuts ought to be $85 billion, and Rep. Les Aspin of the House Armed Services Committee put the figure at $91 billion.

Is there hope?

Didn't I offer you, like, a cheesecake or something? That offer stands! :-D

Gus, it's real purty, except for that red thing.

The legal and ethical issues of selling my vote notwithstanding...

I vote in Massachusetts. I am afraid my vote simply isn't worth cheesecake - heck, it is not even worth a piece of cheese.

Thanks though.

Yeah, Massachusetts isn't exactly a battleground state, is it?

Didja see this?

Let me put it this way...

If Kerry can't win Massachusetts, he is in deep doodoo.

Not even Nader leaving the race could save him if he is this bad off.
