I have heard Americans say:

I am headed home.

I am heading home.

Are both correct? Do they mean the same thing? Thanks very much.

@Doubtful,
Doubt, there might be a very subtle diff: The "-ing" might imply an upcoming action

@dalehileman,

@Doubtful,
americans, and I am one so I can say so do not understand the rules of our language. if you are speaking most say they are both correct but when you look in the textbook definition, you have to look at the tense of the whole sentence and usually the second is correct.

@Doubtful,
Both are correct.
They have approximately the same meaning. Feel free to use them interchangeably.
