Switch wired for ceiling fan but installed chandelier

We have a new construction home that came with a ceiling fan in the formal living that we did not like. It was wired with two switches (one for fan and one for what I assume would have been the light kit if there had been one). When we hooked the chandelier up the light switch works fine but if the other switch is used it trips the breaker. Should that switch just be disconnected, and capped off?

@Bmitchell,
It sounds like when you installed the chandelier you shorted the fan circuit to ground. You should probably go back in and cap that off.
