ceiling fan light installation

Hi. I'm installing a fan/light where an old ceiling light was. The wiring from the switch is one black, one red ( hot), and one white ( end taped black). The source has one black ( hot) and one white. The fan/light has one black, one white, one blue. I'm omitting the green grounds. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the connections when I removed the old fixture. There was also a small jumper wire in the connections. I've tried the red to blue and black from fan/light; all whites together, and two blacks together. This works; however, when the switch is turned off, the hallway and other bedroom ceiling lights go off. The small jumper wire needs to be installed, but to what? Thanks

@edgarblythe,
Edgar. The switch loop diagram did the trick. Before finding this forum I googled dozens of other sites and couldn't find a similiar scheme.
Thanks again, Brian
