Addressing of E-Mail

I just received an e-mail that has the sender's e-mail address on the From Line and the sender's e-mail address on the To Line. It doesn't show my e-mail address on the To Line or anywhere else.

How did it arrive in my Inbox? I think it show have gone only into the sender's Inbox. (I realize it makes no sense for someone to send an e-mail to himself.)

@gollum,
the sender created an email group that doesn't allow you to know who the emails are being sent to (other than you)

it's a twist on the old bcc usage

@gollum,
Your email address is in the email somewhere. It sounds like a possible phishing email (so there's likely a very large list of email addresses buried somewhere cogs of said email if not presently open to the basic email reader).

If you are interested you can look at the email headers (this is what are actually used to make sure the email gets to you).

In Gmail, there is a little drop down menu just to the right of the email title (it is a little triangle). If you click on this it gives you an option to "view original". If you click this it will show you exactly what the email looks like to the server (i.e. how it was actually sent) before the email program tried to make it look pretty. I am sure that your email address will show up here, and you can see exactly how the headers are set up.

I believe that most email programs have something similar (it might be called "show source" or something similar... you just have to look for it).

It is interesting to look at if you like looking under the covers at technical things. (It is a pain in the butt if you are a engineer trying to parse it.)

@gollum,
Did you REALLY post all this private information on a public forum?! Not that bright. Rolling Eyes

What purpose did this serve?

@gollum,
I'm sure the sender is going to appreciate you posting her email info publicly.

I hope she's not a good friend of yours.

@gollum,
Yes... although you might should strip out the personal information here. By posting that you are giving up your email address, and maybe more...

I just edited http://able2know.org/topic/298594-1#post-6052510 in order to remove a ton of personal information.

Please think before posting such information again. Thank you.

You didn't tell him to copy and paste anything. His whole question was an unnecessary pointless one. You just gave him the answer he was inquiring about. He's the one who needs to feel guilty, not you.
