Well, maybe that'll be a test of what content the guides' internet sites contain.
I LOVE the DK "Eyewitness" Guides. More photos & maps than any others. Also, pictures of food, money, etc. Just reading through one of these guidebooks makes me feel as though I've been there. For the very visual...
I have mixed feelings about photos. I love them, could look at travel photos all day long. On the other hand, I remember my surprise when I walked down a very narrow street and turned the corner to see the early morning unpopulated piazza Navona, which I'd never heard of before.
I couldn't believe my eyes.
So, part of me likes the fat guidebooks with little in the way of photos, and part of me devours the glossyh rather heavy ones with photos.
