I think Inge de Bruijn is doing a bad job at the moment. Looking at all the gold medals she got in Sydney, now she got only two bronze medals (out of two contests though). Did you know by the way that one of the four Dutch swimmers who achieved silver during the relay race is a German?

The other competitors are not just going to say "go ahead and win". They're all trying their best. In the 100 fly she just touched behind the winner and came third. Did you know that the winner (Petria Thomas) has had 3 shoulder reconstructions in recent years? And also doesn't have a major sponsor.

I'm not saying the other swimmers aren't doing a good job here Wilso - absolutely not! Point is however that as it seemed, Inge de Bruijn was very fit and really able to go for some golden medals.

and today finally Croatia get first medal Smile Bronze in weight-lifting.
But, these can be good Olympics for us...
Tennis double in semifinal, rowing pair in final, handball team undefeated and after three rounds already secured quarter final spot, and our Tamara Boros only remaining European in quarter finals of table-tennis tournament (actually, only non-Asian remaining).
And there's still Natasa Vezmar in taekwondo, and high jumper Blanka Vlasic that had compete in 15 meetings this year and was never below third place...

Good for you, MOU.

Instead, our synchronized divers finished in 5th place (both duos), our boxers have sistematically been eliminated (sometimes by the rivals, sometimes by the judges), our male soccer team is out (but it would have been naïve to expect something else), our swimmers break national records (while losing in the semis) and our archers get scared sh¡tless when they are winning, and blow the last arrow.
We knew the first week was going to be weak, but not as much.
Let's see what's left with real chances: we've got the speed and points race in women cycling, the olympic walkers (these fellers have only failed to win a medal once since 1984), Ana Guevara in the 400 mts, a sailor still in contention, our champions in tae kwon do, our divers in individual events, women's soccer alive but with little chance... and the hope for a miracle in those disciplines where Mexicans think Pierre de Coubertin's motto is still valid in 2004.

A joke recently heard on the streets of Mexico City:
"Do you know why we're doing so bad at the Olympic games?"
"Sure. Every Mexican that can jump, run or swim is already in the USA".

Yesterday has been the best day for the Dutch team so far: two golden medals (Leontien Zijlaard-van Moorsel - bicycling; Pieter van den Hoogenband - swimming), one silver medal (Edith de Bruijn - judo), one bronze medal (Mark Huizinga - judo). At the moment Mia Audina is competing for gold (table tennis), but I think it will be silver.

Just rub it in Sad Anyway, Mia Audina has got herself silver, it seemed she was winning for a moment, but eventually her opponent was just too strong.

Perhaps overpaid and too self-confident as well.

However, still better than

Rick, table tennis is still not in medal phase, so either you dreamt about Dutch player called Mia Audina, or she is in some other sport?

Yes, Mia Audina won a medal in woman's badminton, not table tennis, I'm sorry MyOwnUsername, I had just read your post and I wasn't really thinking  And Walter Hinteler: don't underestimate the Dutchmen! We're around place 10 now, with five medals with swimming alone, one with bicycling, one with badminton, three with judo. Ha! And we have great hockey players too! Cool
