Wasn't that already decided yesterday, just a few hours after the finish of the marathon, fbaezer?

interesting fact - in ex Yugoslavia, Croats absolutely ruled basketball and volleyball, now we are nowhere and Serbs are world class. Serbs, however, absolutely ruled handball and football, now they are nowhere and we are world class in handball, and much much better in football then Serbia. Funny.

Oh, good. That makes my eyes tear. I had been thinking he should get some kind of honorary gold, or what? You train so hard to do an important marathon, and most runners only have a certain number of high achieving marathons possible in their best running years, I thought it was heartbreaking.

I know what you mean ossobuco. It's still not clear though whether he will be awarded an extra golden medal. Brasil has filed a complaint against the IOC, because they didn't award De Lima a golden medal after all.

I don't think though that Brasil can really claim the golden medal. I mean, it's not even clear whether De Lima would have eventually won the gold without the medal (the number 02 and 03 were already gaining a lot of ground when the incident happened). That does not mean I can understand that Brasil claims the golden medal, but we simply don't know. It should at least be a golden medal of honor or something, in my eyes though.

Unfortunaly no.

Because the IOC already said that he gets "only" the fairness medal.

And that's why Brasil has filed a complaint against the IOC Thok.

I know, but the IOC refuse this: Lima gets just the fairness medal.

yeah, those are tricky situations. But I don't think they would be in terrible pain if they give him additional gold medal.

I can see the quandary if he didn't have a chance to win; I don't know if he had catchup time had he somehow put on a burst of speed.

well, incident wasn't DIRECTLY connected with him losing gold (he was still in the lead after it, and for a mile or so more) - and in the way race was developing it's quite possible that he would lose gold anyway. But, it's also truth that he was terribly upset by the incident.

Lima gets from his sponsors the full option money:

200, 000 Real (around 62,000 $) and 2 kilogram gold.

He deserved it absolutley!

Of course, the 6th place is great! But I think we should especially honor the Australians. For a relatively small country, it's absolutely fantastic to see them end up fourth, with 49 medals, of which 17 gold medals.

Three cheers for Australia

Hurray, hurray, hurray!!

Cool

Thanks Mate
We were quite suprosed as well
Our cyclists and womens swimming did exceptionally well
And Finally our men's hockey team won. the first in 48 years.
