Are Trailways and Greyhound still operating? I never see their buses on the interstates anymore. Used to be the cheapest way to go cross country if you didn't have a car.

I still see the little grayhound, but on busses labled TMN&O, which is a local company. Maybe it's just a franchising company now.

Are you back in the states now, Pitter?

No, still in Cali, Colombia and just bought a house. Question about buses was out of idle curiosity. Used to take Grehound a lot as a kid.

TRAILWAYS BUS COMPANIES
Many Trailways companies originally remained independent while "joining" the Trailways system as member companies, assuming new names containing "Trailways". These companies eventually merged into Transcontinental Bus System, later Continental Trailways, and finally combined into Greyhound.

Carolina Coach Co./Carolina Trailways (CCC) - incorporated 1925 as Carolina Coach Co., in 1940 joined Trailways, continues to exist as separate company.

Carolina Scenic Coach Lines/Carolina Scenic Trailways (CSC) - in 1938 joined Trailways, sold 1973 to Continental Trailways.

Consolidated Bus Lines/Consolidated Trailways (CBL) - formed 1926 by J. E. Craft, incorporated 1933 as Consolidated Bus Lines, in 1954 joined Trailways.

Crescent Stages/Continental Crescent Lines (CrS) - incorporated 1928 as Dixie Stage Lines, reorganized 1931 as Crescent Stages, in 1938 joined Trailways, sold 1953 to Transcontinental Bus System.

Smoky Mountain Stages/Smoky Mountain Trailways (SMS) - in 1938 joined Trailways, sold 1956 to Transcontinental Bus System.

Southern Bus Lines/Continental Southern Lines (SBL) - sold 1948 to Transcontinental Bus System.

Virginia Stage Lines/Virginia Trailways (VaT) - incorporated 1925, in 1938 joined Trailways.

I hope you'll be okay. You must really, really love the place after the warnings you got about the area.

Post often, so we know what's up.

We have a Greyhound depot here. Uh, last I looked. It might be a Patriot gas station by now. I almost took one south a few hundred miles when I needed eye surgery earlier this year, as my best pal was going to be in Alaska the day before it was scheduled. Luckily, heh, that turned into an emergency and she drove me in the middle of the night a few days ahead of that instead. I'm only half kidding, as I didn't want a ten or whatever hour bus ride with stops, with eye pressure.

I have take two Greyhound bus rides in m'life, one to Palm Springs from Los Angeles, and one from San Diego to LA. I remember that one best. That cost $6.00. I think the plane was something like $39., which I didn't have. The woman next to me talked for large parts of the trip about the Lennon Sisters (who used to be on the Lawrence Welk Show.) I suffered ennui.
