@farmerman,
It's legal tender in participating outlets in Lewes, (or was I don't know if it's still going.) It was an attempt to get people to shop locally.

Yesterday when I was driving through the New Forest I drove past one of these guys sat quietly at the side of the road. He wasn't at all bothered by the car.

@izzythepush,
Our Buteo hawks have developed a similar hunting adaptation. They will sit along busy roads or sit high in a tree jut over the roads and watch for rodents and rabbits that get " greased". While the rabbits are still kicking the hawks will swoop down and drive away with their "kill"

@farmerman,
That's a buzzard, sorry for not saying. That particular road has a 40mph speed limit. Animals: donkeys, horses and cows, roam wild.

@izzythepush,
you use "buzzard" differently than North Americans. A vulture or condor (Cathartidae) is what we call "BUZZARDS"

I know you call the Buteos and some Accipitors "Buzzards"

2 countries separated ted by a common language

@farmerman,
This is the wiki page, they've been called buzzards for a long time, I don't think your buzzards are the same genus.

@izzythepush,
I thought I just said that. Perhaps I was not clear. I gave the different genera.
An Accipitor is sub family name for "long tailed hawks and falcon, and OSpreys"
Buteos are the large " Feather Legginged" hawks and Eagles . These include the Broadwings or the Red Tailed HAwks (US names).
We would call the one in your photo a broadwinged hawk.

We call "Carrion Feeders" Vultures or BUZZARDS.
