College graduate not pursing their major

i am a college graduated 4 years ago. right now working in retail which is not related to what i study in school .. my question , i would like you to please share your opinion about the reason majority of college grads don’t pursue their majors?

Because unless the subject matter is itself involved in with particular marketable skills and knowledge (e.g. law, science, technology), a "degree " merely implies that you have a certain level of intelligence and perseverance.
Continued pursuit via "dedicated" academic research tends to be a less well paid option and has its own in group squabbles and rivalries.

To add to this, technology often moves faster than four-year degrees do (or even two-year degrees). And some of us are a few years removed from our BAs. I do stuff that didn't exist when I got my BA. The Internet did not exist then.
