I work for Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
I am help desk technician you know the guy you call when your stuff breaks or a password reset.
I love the job, love the hours, pay isn't the greatest but hey im working.
For having nothing but on the job experience and good customer service skills i've done okay here.
I had started with 6 month right to hire contract. I got hired permanently after 3.
But i've a got a grocery list of potential phyiscal problems i could forsee that make me nervous about moving to more hands on techie job.
I have most of the know how.
But...my back is shot. I blew out a disc and had it removed. Bending over for long periods of time leaves me stiff and looking for a place to stretch.
Being on my knees, that just kills after about a minute, i used to work on my knees as an aircraft mechanic for about 5 years. Too tall.
As a tech hauling and lifing a pc doesn't bug me, its being crawling around a lot or awkward positions.
i don't have to do that as i sit here and type.
One could almost retire at my position here an no one would say a word.
