I was just wondering: how do most of the Americans here feel about their Canadian neighbors? And vice versa: how do most of the Canadians here feel about their American / US neighbors?
Most Americans consider us Canadians their friendly but underarmed neighbours to the north, and harbour a secret desire to still cross the 49th paralell and conquer us, presumabely for our abundant natural resources. The only time they really get upset with us is when we try to bring Poutine over the border. They consider it a weapon of mass destruction, which is surprising, if you have seen 'Supersize Me'.

'Poutine is Acadian slang for mushy mess and is best described as a heart attack in a bowl'.
Next time you are in Quebec, give it a try.
I know so many Canadians that are transplants here in the US. For the most part, I get along with them no differently than my fellow Americans. The one thing I love to make fun of them with is their "Aye". Not that there is not enough of my accent to make fun of
I have only heard of one negative thing here in the US about Canadians is that they are not very good tippers. On one occasion I actually added more money to the tip because a Canadian friend left a very low tip. I attribute it to a difference of culture rather than being cheap. A negative experience I had when I visited Canada was rude remarks on the street on a few rare occasions commenting on us being Americans.
Linkat: I think how much your tip is depends on where you live. I'm not used to give tips at all frankly.
There is also 'Poutine Italienne' which substitutes the gravy for tomato sauce. I was never fond of that one. Just remember the subtle difference between these two terms:
Poutine = fries with gravy and cheese curds.
Poutain = slut.
I like my sluts covered in cheese curds.
canada is a product of glacial retreat. When it comes again, watch out .
I knew it. The enforced Greenhouse Effect is an American product!
Right Rick. That was my point. Different countries tip differently. Here in the US it is customary to tip 15% - 20% especially at a restaurant. Waitstaff are paid below minimum wage because they are expected to make so much in tips. The situation I described occurred here in the US. I did not want the waitstaff to suffer as a result of a Canadian who did not realize this custom.
Typically whenever I travel out of the country, I read up on these customs and therefore do not either become too cheap or insulting or over tip for that matter.
I'm not accusing you of something Linkat. I just wanted to add something to your post.
My german friends all undertip.
You would probably overtip in Germany.
I thought Canada was sort of a huge adult special ed community?

Only in the prairies. They still haven't grasped the concept of voting liberal.
It would be hard to judge based simply on demographics. As Martin Lether King said, "a man should be judged on the content of his character and not whether or not he is from Canada".
Well, that's not EXACTLY what King said but you get the idea.
