A friend just pointed me to this piece contrasting libertarianism with conservatism. I thought some interested in this discussion might enjoy reading it:

Used "Search" to look up what threads there were on Libertarians here ... found this one.

Wanted to leave this NYT article. Its interesting. It seems liberals did the same in the 70s, all moving to Vermont to create a political base there? If Bernie Saunders is any indication, it did work a little ...

It mostly reminds me of those socialist Russian students of the late nineteenth century, who all went "back into the land" to promote revolution among the peasants ... <grins>

Its kinda cute to see such devoted political idealism on the Right, too. (That's idealism rather than zealotism, as the kind that the Religious Right shows).

That's not "victimless", it is incorrigible and the "Corporate Veil" should be broken to put the offending executives in prison Exclamation

Depends on who the other libertarians are. If they're masked bandits, I'd prefer to stick with some law enforcement and would pay taxes for same. If they're angels, well, that's different. Since, like the rest of us, they're a mixture of both, I'll take minimal government, low taxes, a tad more risk and a lot more freedom than we have at present.

PS. When it comes to corporations, I'm a full-blooded libertarian.

So are they (Corporations) Tartarin (full-blooded Libertarians), they want nothing to hinder their "progress"...... Smile

PS, that's the reason I am a real Libertarian, not a political Libertarian.

Hey guys. That's just my own vision of Libertarianism. Yeah, I can do without all those tax-eating condiments. Personal defense? You don't even want to know (but the Effa-Bee-Eye might!)

This is what I want and what I feel being libertarian will get me closer to accomplishing:

More power to the states as opposed to the federal government, and much less regulation of business (including both penalties and incentives.) Emphasis on civil liberties (as in less power of government to regulate certain aspects of citizen's lives.) Much less taxation (gov't takes over 50% of every cent you earn), accomplished by federal gov't stepping out of social programs - this includes welfare, medicare, scholarships, social security, affirmative action (basically gov't movements stemming from FDR's "new deal." )... If necessary, mild social programs by the state gov't. Governments aren't robin hood, and can't discern between the deserving and undeserving poor. Also, they are not designed for business (which, in a way, social programs are) and don't handle money well, have lots of middle men. I also want ultimate separation of church and state.

If members of the government want to use their own money for redistribution, they can go right ahead. Redistributing the taxpayer money for social issues is wrong, ineffective. We are a union so we may work together as states and protect ourselves from other nations. The framers of the constitution were trying to prevent an overly powerful interfering national gov't.

note: It's also odd how America is involved in other countries for reasons other than war. It reminds me of England under mercantilism. I am not sure how to feel about this.

Gees! The poll is getting interesting! 58% of all people responding believe that they are at least somewhat leaning toward Libertarianism? Where are all these good folks at election time?
Let's take over!

Actually, I just sort of a "link on" to the Libertarians for some much-needed notoriety. I'm really a member (founding member) of the Ospidillo Party. But there are only 2 of us so far... me and my neighbor, The Fire God.
But hey, maybe I can pick up some new members here!

Now, now, they have a completely different premise than the republican and democratic parties. As long as their goals allign with mine, I will vote for them. They are held responsible for these goals by the party, and should the party become stronger it will have more incentives "carrots" to offer in exchange for compliance with libertarian philosophy.
