Are you interested in volunteering, but don't know what is available in your area? VolunteerMatch finds the sort of volunteer position that you are searching for. The nice thing is that you can set the parameters in terms of type of position, and distance you are willing to travel to get to it:

edithdoll posted a link to a boston chapter of this group, or one like it. I joined. I get emails, but I haven't done an event yet.
What a great idea Phoenix, a good way to
start off a new year, by doing some good
for another, in any way you can. I guess
that where I live there are just no
opportunities listed there. This is a rather
small town. We usually have some volunteer
people needed advertised in our bi-weekly
little news letter.
I feel sad for my son-in-law, he made a
New Years resolution to stop drinking, and
he only made it for 4 days. A pretty good
sign of some trouble there.
