Dr. Sagan was one of those "libruls" the lunatic fringe of conservatives, christians and conservative christians loved to hate. They don't care if he's dead, they still hate him.

I don't speak for all Christians but I doubt there were many that hated Sagan.
Personally, I regard him as another intelligent dirt worshipper, or 'star stuff' worshipper if you prefer.

Nah Christians don't do "hate", they simply regard him as one of those poor atheists who worship the universe because it's all they've got..Smile
But at least he was man enough to admit there might be a God- "We would have to know a great deal more about the universe than we do now to be sure that no such God exists"- Carl Sagan

A few years before his death, Albert Einstein described what had motivated him in his life:

There was this huge world out there independent of us human beings and standing before us like a great, eternal riddle, at least partly accessible to our inspection and thought. The contemplation of that world beckoned like a liberation.

@hingehead,
Mate, you're so fond of quoting obsolete Old T verses that we're beginning to suspect you're a closet fundy preacherman..Wink

Yes, Jesus trashed and made obsolete the harsh bits of the Old T by example, for example when the fundy mob wanted to stone an adulteress as prescribed my the Old T laws, Jesus rescued her and told them "On yer bikes".
Likewise he trashed the ancient "eye for an eye".
Obviously, if God had thought the Old T was all we needed, he wouldn't have sent Jesus to give us the NEW T..Wink
People quickly took it on board-

"Jesus saved you from the empty way of life handed you by your forefathers" (1 Pet 1:18 )
"Through Jesus we are saved, and not through Moses" (Acts 13:39)
"We serve in the new way of the spirit, not in the old way of the written code" (Rom 7:6)
"The epistle of Christ, written not in stone, but in the heart" (2 Cor 3:3)
"The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" (John 1:17)
"The veil covers the old covenant, but is removed by Jesus" (2 Cor 3:12)
"The covenant of which Jesus is mediator is superior to the old one" (Heb 8:6)
"In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent." (Acts 17:30)
"Jesus is worthy of more honour than Moses" (Heb 3:3)
"The law brought us to Christ like a schoolmaster, but now through Christ we are not under that schoolmaster" (Gal 3:22-25)

According to John 5:37, Jesus said that no one had ever seen God at anytime or ever heard his voice.

Do you think God told him that? And Jesus shouted "Loophole!"

I wonder how Lucifer and the angels felt about that.

So Moses was bullshitting about the ten commandments, and Abraham was having a senior moment when he prepared to slaughter Isaac, eh?
