It's Miranda, a moon of Uranus.

One of the few human (albeit fictitious) named satellites in the Solar System.

Most are named after gods.

I just noticed that the dog treats I bought Rocky are "turducken flavor." What the hell is that and does a dog care if he eats duck, chicken or beef flavor, when it's all made up crap anyway? I never noticed him turning down any of it.

@edgarblythe,
Love National Geographic. Picked up one the other day with a feature about neolithic structures found on the Orkney Islands. Just amazing.

Neolithic structures undoubtedly needed the help of trained dinosaurs to lift that massive weight.

@edgarblythe,
Well I'll be - I'd heard of Marathon bars but that's the first time I've seen one. In most of the western world they're known as Curly Wurlys

@edgarblythe,
The more than 20 moons of Uranus are named after characters of Shakespeare or Alexander Pope--thus, Miranda (from The Tempest). There is an hypothesis that Miranda was originally much smaller, but collided with a planetesimal of about the same size. If true, it would account for the largest cliff in the solar system, more than three miles high--where the two bodies are uneven joined.

Uranus (Clickity-click!) is fascinating for a variety of reasons. One of the more "exotic" is its rotational axis--most planets more or less rotate on an axis perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic. That's like a ball on a pool table spinning in place. But the rotational axis of Uranus is parallel (more or less) to the plane of the ecliptic--like a pool ball spinning as it rolls down the table, but not getting anywhere. High winds, icy atmosphere, the coldest planet--lots of neat stuff about Uranus.

It's amazing they got that shot of Miranda. This is the sort of thing makes me wish I could peek a few centuries into the future.

Well, I felt great this week, when same sex marriage and Obamacare were affirmed by the SCOTUS, whatever that is. Not that I need either one. But it's great to know I could have them in a different scenario. Now, if only dog could strike down that pesky trade deal -
