I miss Calvin and Hobbes.
@thack45,
Best comic strip in history, in my view.
@ehBeth,
a photo of the Martello Tower at the military college in my hometown - taken in 1928 with cadets of the time
I love the car styles from those days. I would love to have a 1928 sedan.
@edgarblythe,
My favourite thing on FB these days are the pages that have old photos like this - vintage Texas, vintage "my hometown", etc. The cars, the clothes, the kids.

@ehBeth,
I did not see your link, earlier. I liked it so I can go through it more casually.
@edgarblythe,
There are often photos at that Traces of Texas site that make me think of the stories you've told of your earliest years. Also reminds me of stories that Danon used to tell of growing up as a railway kid in the Texas hill country in the 1940's.
I have always been proud of the car we had when I was a boy. This avatar photo is of that actual car. This Dodge Victory Six was last made in 1928 or '29.
In 1956, December, we moved from California to Texas, my birth state. After around ten years, some of my half siblings visited in California. They met my step grandmother. When they told her that I was not a minister, she was shocked, as she had always predicted that for me. I liked the old lady. I did her wrong a few times, but it was half my fault, half the atmosphere. My brothers were given to cynical joking and she sometimes heard us in a group discussing her. And I kept on stealing her luscious boysenberries. My step father disrespected his mother by trashing her home, pulling her around in the yard by her nose, and so on. Given this oil and water mix, we yet somehow enjoyed quiet breakfasts together. She saw me go off to church, alone of family, almost every week. I fooled her, ha ha.
@FBM,
I can't imagine how it would be to live in that house.
@edgarblythe,
Cold at times, I'd imagine, but I'd love to give it a go.
I would need to own a generator or solar panels.
@edgarblythe,
Both, I'd say. One for primary and one for backup. I'd be afraid of having only one system and having it go down in the winter. I see a chimney, though, so that would make me feel more confident.
I wonder what they burn for fuel. Don't see a tree anywhere.
That crossed my mind, too. Maybe they're just out of frame. I'd sure love to have that shoreline to fish.
@ehBeth,
wait
this is Iceland so .... not that cold ... (in comparison to most of Canada at least)
Rocky would probably kill himself accidentally there. But he would love the climate.
