I'm trying to remember the title and author of an essay...the gist of the essay is that man needs work because idleness is bad for the soul/spirit. Can anyone help?
Karl Marx wrote about how work defines man, how man gets a sense of accomplishment through work. But given your phrasing, you are thinking of somebody else... St Augustine?
I studied it about 10 years ago, and I was having a discussion with someone about it. I want to share it with them. I must be remembering something incorrectly. I've searched the internet for hours and can't seem to find it as I remember it.
What do you remember, if anything, other than what you already posted? Not that I'll be any help, but maybe someone else will.
Heh, idle hands are the devil's playground.

@dduke,
Perhaps you can do an Internet search for essays by Ben Franklin...he was quitter prolific on the subject of character...and virtues about productivity.
