@Baldimo,
Um, I may be on drugs - but isn't the senate still controlled by the GOP?

@hingehead,
Unless I missed something, it still requires 60 votes in the Senate. If we want to change all votes to a simple majority, then 53 votes will do the job.

@Baldimo,
And it's my understanding the GOP could reopen the govt without any input from Trump

Republicans Can Reopen the Government With or Without Trump
Instead, they’re ducking their duty.

I agree, the Senate should be done by a simple majority, but that isn't the case.

Were they gay prostitutes? Do you know Jesus forgave a prostitute?

Trump says he can relate to federal workers who can't pay their bills during the #TrumpShutdown.

Yeah, & they'll be able to relate to him once they have to file for bankruptcy.

I suspected it was to make up for your lack of preferential voting, but when I looked it up I found this:

wikipdia wrote:
Filibustered bills require a three-fifths majority to overcome the cloture vote (which usually means 60 votes) and get to the normal vote where a simple majority (usually 51 votes) approves the bill. This has caused some news media to confuse the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster with the 51 votes needed to approve a bill, with for example USA Today erroneously stating "The vote was 58-39 in favor of the provision establishing concealed carry permit reciprocity in the 48 states that have concealed weapons laws. That fell two votes short of the 60 needed to approve the measure".[43]

I'm pretty sure this isn't a filibustered bill (but I'm unclear on the exact definitions under your wackadoodle system).

@coldjoint,
Obama won one fact checker;s lie of the year award for saying if you like your heazlth plan, you can keep it. Whichin fact turned out to be true for 97% of all health plans. The plans the people lost were the bogus health plans that insurance companies peddled to the gulloible as cheap but which turned out to cover very little and were liable to be cancelled if people actually tried using them. They didn't meet the basic standards for coveralge Obamacare set up.

so on fact Obama's "lie of the year" was pretty much true. Trump on the other hand is now up past 7500 untruths since entering office. I don't see much valid comparison between the two.

I was one of the ones who was forced off my health plan. My old plan had a $250 deductible. After that, the plan paid 100% of my bills. And there were no networks. I could go see any doctor that I wanted to see and be fully covered.

The best plan on the Obamacare exchanges only covers 100% of the bills after you pay $7000 of the yearly costs. And you only get that coverage if you stay within their network of doctors. Getting an out-of-network procedure in the rush of a visit to the emergency room will lead to a very nasty surprise at the billing desk.

The notion that my old plan was in any way inferior was just one of Barack Obama's many many lies.
