A small generator to power up the furnace and refrigerator

Why do you need the fridge -- your entire backyard will be a fridge.

i woke this morning after yesterday's tragedy http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2015/01/25/1-dead-1-injured-after-manhattan-home-depot-shooting/
Actually two dead
I find I have nothing to eat in the house except a can of sardines, six slices of bread and three ounces of jam.

Up to the store, I went early, they didn't have any ground beef, WTF, I got a chicken, some stuff to make beef stew and now I'm going to go get a bottle of Jack Daniels.

I'm having a trifecta. I break up with my sweetie from Canada, so sad, there's a murder/suicide where I work and now a fricking Storm of the Century...

Hmmm, doesn't look too bad on radar just yet. But I guess it's supposed to "explode" into something super-nasty. Bright and sunny right now though. My parents have a giant house and a generator, so I'm taking my daughter and heading down there for two days. Grandparents are very good for entertaining the kid when stuck in the house for a day (or more) Smile

"Running a cord from the generator to the refrigerator" is preferable to "emptying the refrigerator and putting everything outdoors".

Plus the generator runs the furnace too.

And maybe this last one wouldn't apply in a city or suburb, but out here in the middle of nowhere I get no running water without electricity to run the well pump.

Anyway, if you build any snowmen, be sure to post a picture of it/them.

Ow.

45 minutes of ice chopping/preparatory shoveling to get rid of the ice base on the sidewalk in anticipation of tonight/tomorrow.

Flurries have started. Drugs have been taken.

And so it begins.

Y'all stay put and stay safe.
Central Virginia was right on the southern edge of this thing. We may have to deal with ice Tuesday morning but it will be nothing compared to the NE.

I live in the middle of a small northeastern city and am hoping we keep our power. The CVS down the street has said it will remain open, so I'm optimistic my building with its few dozen apartments will keep its power as well. It's going to get really boring really fast if I have no light to read by.
