@FBM,
Have you had success observing a photon from its side?
Tell me how you did this since you claiming to know what you are talking about.

I am simply asking you to prove that it is "not" a fact.

That's not how it works with science though.

People don't just come up with theories and then get a Nobel Prize if no one disproves the theory.

It is up to the person who comes up with the theory to defend their theory from people who ask questions of it.

And new theories are always greeted with universal skepticism. They have to weather years, even decades, of questioning and harsh scrutiny before people begin to accept the theory as valid.

@oralloy,
What I do is confirm the truth by testing everything that could make it false.
I'm not sure of your process. I can only explain mine.

@peter jeffrey cobb,
This goes for the guys with the hand camera across the street.
The funny looking bridge is a model of the structure of space with the photons running through it and on the background. In the center you can see that I am working on the creation of atoms.

It takes more than the lack of negative evidence. There also has to be some sort of positive evidence that proves the theory is correct.

And even with such positive evidence, it can often be a long hard fight for a theory to be accepted.

As one extreme example, Alfred Wegener published his theory of continental drift in 1912. He spent the rest of his life publishing evidence that supported his theory, but died tragically in 1930, never knowing anything but ridicule for his ideas.

I think you are underestimating the amount of effort it requires to achieve mainstream acceptance of a theory.

@DNA Thumbs drive,
Fine Mr smarty pants. Tell me, why you are not able to observe a photon, unless it impacts you?
I'll be sitting here waiting for the photons you send me, to hit my eyes.

Peter, I consider you an old a2k friend and I'm wondering if anyone answered your original question yet.

I'm not interested in the ongoing argument myself, right now anyway, and am skipping it for the opening question - I'd not heard of a nobel ornament and it sounds like a neat item for a sun umbrella.

@ossobuco,
Yes that would be cool.
I try not put too much value on the item because I want everyone to know "it does not matter who you are, if you think you can help someone with a problem, it is your duty to chip in".
But yes of course, there would be a great honor to receive such a certificate of appreciation.
