Sleepless in Seattle and the like

Reply Sat 19 Oct, 2002 07:55 pm
While checking out this delightful site, I am half watching Sleepless in Seattle for the umpteenth time.

Usually, I can't stand to watch the same movie over and over again, and it is questionable whether I can say I am really 'watching' since I'm also reading/writing/etc. on the computer at the same time.

But there are a few movies that I will ALWAYS watch again and again and they are usually pretty mushy and often 'sweet'.

Are there any movies you love to watch?

Hi bandylu! I

can't begin to tell you how nice it is to see you again after all this time.

I could watch "The Princess Bride" every

day and not get tired of it.

I just watched most

of the first "Men in Black" again. It's great for the genre. I was really struck by this exchange (paraphrased from

memory):

Jay [Will Smith]: Why don't you just tell people [about the aliens]? People are smart. They can handle

it.

Kay [Tommy Lee Jones]: A person is smart. People are dumb, dangerous animals, and you know it.

Hi boomerang --

great to see you, too (and you, too, sozobe).

Another of my favorites -- ET (I always get teary eyed at the

ending).

I don't feel too bad about my old favorites -- my husband absolutely loves to watch Weekend at

Bernies!!!!

When I was young I

watched some films over and over since I wasn't allowed to watch TV, I've watched some of these over 20 times.

Ben

Hur (I'd not watch this again).

Jesus of Nazareth (ditto)

Animals are Beautiful People (I love this

documentary)

Singing in the Rain (I love this movie)

That's Entertainment (don't remember

which)

Brigadooon (Gene Kelly was my hero as a child)

My Fair Lady (I love this one)

There are more but

I don't remember them all.

I generally don't like watching movies again but in the romantic comedy genre I like When

Harry met Sally

Ah, yes, Rae, I

forgot Pretty Woman -- I've watched that a zillion times, too.

Craven -- we did have tv, but my daughter still

watched certain movies over and over again (namely Charlotte's Web -- I think there was a time when she could have recited

the dialogue word for word). We also had homemade videos of all the Christmas kiddie shows (like Rudolph and Frosty and

such) which she would watch over and over -- all year long!

Amazing assortment of movies here (some of which, I admit, I never even saw once let alone multiple times). Joanne, I think you get the prize for the most varied list. Aliens??? Much too yucky for me.

Fellowship of the Ring

The Searchers

Rio Bravo (nothing better than a cheesy Western an a rainy Saturday afternoon to wile away the time)

Zulu (Okay, so I have a weakness for action/adventure).

Oh! Seven Days in May is a good one! I'd forgotten about that one.

And I'll add the original version of The Thing.

Golly -- my list would just be too long!

Some goodies I can watch more than once a year:

"Jaws"
"The War of the Worlds" (the special effects for that time are still
incredible)
"2001: A Space Odyssey" (and looking forward to the IMAX version)
"The Fellowship of the Ring" (and looking forward to the extended version)
James Bond, but especially "From Russia with Love" and "The Spy Who
Love Me"

And I can also watch the really great art house/foreign films again and again but generally not with company! I guess I have to educate more of my friends.

LW the War Of The Worlds for got that one. Still holds up doesn't it. To my surprise once I had it on video and slow motioned through the part where the actual alien is seen it is really hokey so unlike the special effects of today.
