Hello, I am currently at the beginning stages of Nursing school and i'm anxious to begin getting on the job experience. I was talking to classmates and many of them are CNA's and CMA's. I was interested in becoming one myself. There is no CNA programs in my area but both CMA and Surgical Tech training progams are offered. My goal is to become an OR nurse in the long term. Which program would you recommend me to apply for to best benefit with career training and also to assist in school? Thanks for any feedback!!!!
@Thadoras,
OR is probably going to require RN.
@roger,
I know, i plan to get my RN in the long term. I'm just wondering which would be a better introduction to the field, CMA or Surgical Tech?
@Thadoras,
I'm going to admit I don't know anything about CMA, but I'm guessing CNA might be better in the long run. Not necessarily for the actual experience perhaps, but for the people you meet and the contacts you make. That assumes you are making a good impression on them. If you go that route for that reason, you have to remember you are on stage every day of work.
