If I use my PC to go to a website that has a virus or some other form of malware on it, can my PC become infected? To be clear I have not downloaded anything and I have not clicked on any link.

Depends on how strict you have your browser, firewall and anti virus/malware set.

There are some out there that will download themselves as son as you access the site. Some of your security settings address that and prevent many unapproved downloads. Some are nasty enough to get by even that so you need to keep your software updated and backed up. Also create periodic restore points to help recover from it.

I had no idea that a download could occur in absence of my clicking a button that says download.
