Yes, it's the 1st of June. (Already!) Officially the first day of winter here in Oz. Today is cold, windy & grey. (Already! )Shocked As if it couldn't wait!

But here's the bad news: The drought continues. In May the state of Victoria received only one third of its average annual rainfall. We're told that things are not going to be much better over the coming months. So it's going to be cold AND dry. Confused Shocked

There MUST be some good things to be said for winter!
Please tell me some!
(& enjoy enjoy your coming summer, you folk in the northern hemisphere. I'm SOOOO jealous!)

I'm trying to think of some pro-winter things:

I guess more time indoors means more reading, so I can get stuck into that pile up of unread books?
And thank god that I had proper heating installed during the summer! Last winter (my first one here) was freezing! Shocked

Last winter I spent so much time on the computer, typing with one hand and holding a sandwich in the other, I gained ten pounds! Don't forget to exercise, it will keep you warm.

Ooh, what books do you want to get reading, Msolga? Winter--- most of the books that are deemed Classics were started during the Winter months; so, perhaps, you might get some inspiration and end up famed!

Yes, I thought I'd better get back into walking yesterday, when I walked around 9k. But it was freezing on the way home! Shocked And I was so tired when I finally got home all I could do was recuperate on the couch ... for ages. Laughing

Still in my home of almost 20 years ..... You know how it goes, Gus, the relationship breaks up & we sell it & move our separate ways. This little Victorian doll's house was lovely, but as I found in winter, bloody freezing! Shocked

I couldn't believe the construction of the houses I saw in Oz, so not airtight. Coming from new england it was a shocker.

Oh. I thought you were saying you had moved from a warmer climate. My mistake.

Say, by the way, msolga, I feel we know each other quite well.

May I call you mso?

I have a big bunch on my bedside table, on the dressing table & under the bed, Drom. These include:

Ahab's Wife
Disturbances In the Field
Families & How to Survive Them
Marta & Darn ... etc, etc ..

I have a great deal with a good pre-loved bookshop, which means I can buy impulsively & try different authors.

This charming little terrace I live in now is over 100 years old, littlek. God knows how a whole family lived here. Maybe the closeness & crowding kept them warm?

lentil & spinach soup
pea & ham soup
chicken soup
everything in the fridge soup

Have I missed any? Any new ones I could try?

I love everything in the fridge soup; I could make some of that myself right now, if I were not in some one else's house, and its being 3.46 am!

I am a big fan, however, of the understated tomato soup with a few slices of French bread. I'm starving at the thought...
